Peru is a landscape of contrasts. Depending on where you stay, you will encounter different cultures and nature. That's why we've prepared an offer in this program to introduce the magical Cusco and the "Lost City of Incas" - Machu Picchu high up in the mountains,Titicaca's islands with local communities, the stunning Colca Canyon with sailing Andean Condors, the "white city" of Arequipa, the mysterious lines and shapes in the Nazca desert, the necropolis in Chauchilla, the desert dunes in Huacachina, the world famous Pisco - Peruvian alcoholic beverage, and pre-Columbian and colonial history.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO LIMA
Arrival to Lima and transfer to our hotel.
DAY 2: LIMA - PARACAS - HUACACHINA
Early in the morning, we take the bus to Paracas where we will take a boat trip along the Ballestas Islands, also known as Little Galapagos. After 15 minutes we will arrive at the enigmatic emblem of El Candelabro, where the guide explains the different theories of its origin. Then, we will continue among the rocky islands, where we will observe different marine species such as sea lions, thousands of seabirds, etc. We will return to the harbor around 10.00am.
After a short break, we will take a tour of Paracas National Park. We will visit the Interpretation Center where guide explains us everything about the fauna in the reservation. Then, we will continue the excursion to the Paracas peninsula, where we will see various desert formations created by wind, multicolored surfaces, rocky formations on the coast created by the seawater. We will also visit beautiful beaches such as Playa Yumaque, Playa Roja, Playa Lagunillas. Here we have time to have lunch on the beach and walk around. In the afternoon, we take the bus to Huacachina and spend the night there.
DAY 3: HUACACHINA - NAZCA
We will have the opportunity to take a buggies trip through the desert dunes and to try sandboarding, and later to have lunch on the shore of the lagoon in the desert. By the afternoon bus we move to the desert town of Nazca, known for its geoglyphs (lines and desert figures). We stay in the hotel and dine in one of the local restaurants.
DAY 4: NAZCA - AREQUIPA
Optional: After the breakfast, we'll take you to María Reiche Airport where we'll take a look at informative video about mysterious lines and desert pictures before taking the flight. Then, we board a Cessna plane, 3-5 passengers, and take the desert flight. Every passenger has a guaranteed seat at the window to see the terrain. The flight takes approximately 40 minutes and during this flight we will observe desert shapes that have different shapes: condor, hummingbird, hands, cosmonaut, tree, pelican, spider, monkey, dog, whale, lizard. In addition, we will see hundreds of lines and geometric formations intersecting the local desert and reminding of huge airfields.
Optional (for those who do not want to fly) - Chauchilla Necropolis: We leave by private transport for the 27km distant city of the dead - the Chauchilla Cemetery. We can see the mummified human remains of ancient local culture along with their funeral objects. We will also visit a small local museum where children's mummies and photos of archaeological research can be seen. By night bus we will follow our journey to the city of Arequipa.
DAY 5: AREQUIPA
In the morning, after arriving in Arequipa, we start our visit of Arequipa known as the "White City" (the "sillar" stone blocks of the volcanic origin were used to build the buildings), and in the afternoon we will take part in the City Tour. We will start exploring the Santa Catalina Monastery, founded in 1580. Later, we visit the Jesuit Church, Yanahuara Square, from where we will enjoy the view of the El Misti volcano, which towers over the city.
DAY 6: AREQUIPA - COLCA CANYON - PUNO
Early in the morning, we head out from Arequipa to Chivay, the gateway to the Colca Canyon to La Cruz del Cóndor along the road stretching the edges of the Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world, measuring at 4100m in the largest depth. Several times we stop to enjoy the beautiful views of the Canyon. The guide will explain the history and present of the Canyon inhabitants. We climb to the famous La Cruz del Cóndor - from where there is a magnificent view of the canyon and the sailing Andean Condor, the second largest terrestrial bird species. Upon returning to Chivay, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we take off to Puno. We climb up to 4950 masl to the El Mirador de Los Andes, where we stop to enjoy of nearby and distant volcanoes of Arequipa. We could also see the alpacas and vicuñas. At an altitude of 4400 masl we will have a short break at Las Lagunillas, lakes where we can see flamingos and other bird species of the Peruvian Altiplano. In the evening we arrive in the picturesque environment of Lake Titicaca in Puno. There we spend the night in the hotel.
DAY 7: PUNO - UROS - TAQUILE
After breakfast, we take you to the local lake harbor where a boat will be waiting for us and will bring us to one of Uros' floating reed islands. A representative of the local population will explain everything about the life of the local community and will demonstrate the construction of floating reed islands. After completing the visit to the island of Uros, we will be taken to the island of Taquile. Here we will explore the island and see the inhabitants of the local community. The hand-made fabrics produced on the island are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. After lunch on the island and after 3 hours of boat cruise, we will return to Puno approximately at 4.00pm.
DAY 8: PUNO - CUSCO
Early in the morning we leave the Lake Titicaca and after couple of hours and stops we get to the royal city of Incas, Cusco. We will arrive around 3pm and after the accommodation we will explore the center of Cusco.
DAY 9: CUSCO CITY TOUR
In the afternoon, we will take part in the Cusco City Tour. We will visit the Inca and Colonial Monuments in Cusco and its surroundings (The Cathedral, The Temple of the Sun - Qorikancha, Sacsayhuaman, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay).
DAY 10: SACRED VALLEY - AGUAS CALIENTES
In the morning, we will go to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will visit the archaeological complexes, textile workshop and art craft market in Chinchero. Upon arrival at Moray, we will be explained the origin and use of the circular terraces. At Maras, we will explore local salt mines-ponds. We will pass through the valley to the city of Urubamba, where we will have lunch and continue to Ollantaytambo. Here we visit the Inca fortress, which spans the valley. We will board our train to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon. Here we dine and overnight.
DAY 11: MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
Early in the morning, we'll begin our tour of the "The Lost City of Incas" - Machu Picchu. We will explore its temples, the Inca Bridge, or climb up to the Huayna Picchu where we will experience an unforgettable view of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon we will return to Aguas Calientes, where we will have lunch and take the train back to Cusco.
DAY 12: OPTIONAL: HUMANTAY LAKE / THE RAINBOW MOUNTAIN / SOUTH VALLEY
In the morning we will fly to Lima and spend the afternoon in the local bohemian Barranco district where we may stop at the famous La Bodega Verde café. Then, we will go to the Miraflores business and residential district, we walk through Malecon (the ocean promenade), we visit the Larcomar Center and through the Kennedy Park we reach the heart of Miraflores
DAY 14: LIMA
This day will be held in the spirit of discovering Lima, both pre-Columbian (Huaca Pucllana, Museo Larco) and colonial (St. Francis Monastery, Plaza de Armas and others). We will also optionally visit a restaurant that offers a selection of the finest Peruvian cuisine.
DAY 15: LIMA GASTRONOMIC TOUR
At 9.30am after the pick up from our hotel we will head to a typical fresh market in Lima. And in a local restaurant with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean we will learn to prepare national dishes such as Ceviche Peruano and Causa Limeña and try the national drink of Peru, Pisco.
DAY 16: LIMA - DEPARTING PERU
Transfer to the airport and return to your home country or continue traveling as part of the program's expansion according to your individual interest.
